I don't do it.
I don't do spec work.
No matter how cool it is, I will not work on your project under the premise that it will make money to split on later.
We have our own passion projects to see through, our own artists (and musicians, and programmers) to pay for.
We respect these professionals, their skill sets, and their expertise enough to pay them a living wage.
This means thousands of dollars.
We don't approach these artists until we know we can pay them for their work.
That means we have the money sitting in a bank, ready to be transferred into their hard working hands.
I respect artists; writers, musicians, illustrators--the whole lot of 'em. If I want their talent on my project, I pay them for it.
If you can't afford me that same respect, don't contact me. My answer is no.

being a paid webtoon creator...(AMA?)
I've been a bit quiet on here, things have been so busy! For those unaware, I'm currently paid by WEBTOON to make a comic for their platform titled Woven! It is my story, I maintain the IP rights to it, they just get to distribute it exclusively for up to 3 years after the last episode is published. For those of you familiar with WEBTOON, and those of you who perhaps want to also become a webtoon originals(paid contract) creator to some capacity, I just wanted to invite you to ask me any questions about it that you might have
Grendel's Woven art is so beautiful
Please look at these illustrations! (and if you like them, consider following Grendel on twitter for more beautiful artwork!!) When ever I need to psyche myself up to get some panel art done, I just take a moment to browse through these beautiful drawings they've done: @grendelmenz on twitter!

Aye!
Do folks still read journals? I don't even know where to find them in my inbox anymore lmao Well, if you're here...how many of you are currently reading Woven? Are you enjoying it so far? How does the pacing feel? I worry with the weekly updates that the pacing moves too slowly, but no one has complained about that yet, so hopefully the pace feels comfy for the time being! It's impossible to tell 'till it's out, you know? Woven's the very first comic we've ever made, and so...we are learning a lot and are very lucky to have such a patient and kindly readership!

I'm not a professional artist, but I understand the concept of spec work and it definitely seems like it takes artists' work for granted.
