I don't do it.
I don't do spec work.
No matter how cool it is, I will not work on your project under the premise that it will make money to split on later.

We have our own passion projects to see through, our own artists (and musicians, and programmers) to pay for.
We respect these professionals, their skill sets, and their expertise enough to pay them a living wage.
This means thousands of dollars.
We don't approach these artists until we know we can pay them for their work.
That means we have the money sitting in a bank, ready to be transferred into their hard working hands.

I respect artists;  writers, musicians, illustrators--the whole lot of 'em. If I want their talent on my project, I pay them for it.

If you can't afford me that same respect, don't contact me. My answer is no.

I'm not a professional artist, but I understand the concept of spec work and it definitely seems like it takes artists' work for granted.
